A Little Bit of Music

I enjoy watching this video of Irfan and Neeme Jarvi making music together, its like a grandpa and his grandson having a bit of  fun. Even though I can never understand western classical music and as its my grandnephew who is tinkling the piano so bring it on....

Impromptu piano soloing by Tengku Ahmad Irfan to impromptu music created by maestro Neeme Järvi and the orchestra in Estonia, 2010.

A bit about the maestro Neeme Jarvi..

Many international accolades and awards have been bestowed upon Neeme Järvi. In Estonia these include an honorary doctorate from the Music Academy of Estonia in Tallinn, and the Order of the National Coat of Arms from the President of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Lennart Meri. The mayor of Tallinn presented Maestro Järvi with the city’s first-ever ceremonial sash and coat of arms insignia, and he has been named one of the “Estonians of the Century”. He is also the honorary member of Estonian Theatre and Music Museum’s council board. Neeme Järvi holds an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from Detroit’s Wayne State University, as well as honorary degrees from the University of Aberdeen, the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the University of Michigan; and Commander of the North Star Order from King Karl Gustav XVI of Sweden.

Jarvi and his wife Liilia have three children, the conductors Paayo Jarvi and Kristian Jarvi and flutist Maarika Jarvi.  After their emigration to America, the Jarvi family settled initially in Rumson, New Jersey.  He and his wife now make their home in New York City.

I find it hard to imagine a Kelantanese, for that matter Terenganuese, enjoying other than the the classical lyrics frrom Cik Siti Wan Kembang and Ulek Mayang! And western classical is truly beyond me. I enjoy P Ramlee. And you have a grandnephew trying that. You are not just thinking after all. You are somebody to respect.

Pakcik ...thank you for dropping by and leaving a nice comment too. Actually we don't really know from which ancestors Irfan inherit this interest in western classical music (his father is a guitarist @ ENT specialist) but I guess he enjoys the intricacies of learning it. When I asked him how he feels about going to the Juilliard School of Music in NYC to learn more of this classical music his answer was so simple...Suka! while smiling broadly. He is still a kid in so many ways. No one can compare to P. Ramlee and i enjoy him too :)
