A Family Hero

I was pleasantly surprised when I found  this blog on google while searching for more information on my grandnephew forthcoming performance in Estonia late this month.  The owner of the blog should be commended for putting up such an interesting and informative blog featuring personalities who are not always in the spotlight as heroes for their achievements.  I'm sharing the following entry by Belinda about my grandnephew  for personal reasons...even though he will not make it big here for his love in playing classical music, we the family, especially his grandaunts will always give him our ultimate support ...percaya lah :)

Belinda's definition of a hero : Someone who performs a good deed, has a good heart and is an example to the rest of us.

Tengku Ahmad Irfan Tengku Sharizal

Tengku Ahmad Irfan Tengku Sharizal is a 12-year old Malaysian child prodigy pianist. I only know what I’ve read about him but it’s enough for me to be an admirer of his achievements and to look forward to hearing him play one day.

Tengku Ahmad performed at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, Kuala Lumpur, last weekend together with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. He performed Mozart’sPiano Concerto No.8 in C and Chopin’s Andante Spianato Et Grande Brilliante. He performed his own cadenzas for the concerto and played an impromptu composition as an encore.

The young boy is already a seasoned and experienced performer. He played at DFP with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, at its 2-day all-Beethoven showcase (Beethoven’s Piano Concerto in E flat). He also presented his own compositions at the Russian-Malaysian Classic Music Festival in Kuala Lumpur.

Since his first performance he has performed as far as Russia, Estonia and the United States. Last year he performed his own arrangements of Malaysian music in Washington DC and New York and at Permata Seni Muzik’s inaugural concert.

Tengku Ahmad has composed over 20 original piano sonatas. In 2007, at the age of 9, he sat for his grade 5 examination at Trinity Guildhall of London and was awarded the certificate of excellence in solo piano.

Tengku Ahmad’s father is a well known guitarist and a surgeon at University Malaya Medial Centre.
