Tinkling Ivories....Again????

A few weeks ago i had published quite a long narrative about my grandnephew, Tengku Ahmad Irfan, Malaysia's piano protege.  The long winded narrative was written by my elder sister who is very close to Irfan since he was a baby but sad to say and upsetting to me and the other grandaunts of course,  it had to be removed because of some technical glitches...no lah! Irfan don't like to see his baby pics in it ... uwaaaaaaaaaah!

And so this time around I will just put in a few pictures taken by another grandaunt (my younger sis) who is also very chummy and close to Irfan.  The following pictures were taken after Irfan's perfomance in the 'Six Hands Together' concert where he performed with Bobby Chen and Foo Mei Yi.  They performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) at the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS last 17 and 18 September 2011 - Malaysia's very own three top pianists join hands in a solo concerto, a double concerto and a very rare outing of a concerto Mozart originally wrote for a mother and her two daughters...

Add in a few pictures when my niece (Irfan's mum) and family were in KB for a short visit earlier last month(a couple of days before Ramadhan)  before they fly off to New York...

A memory with the family in KB

I had to add in here a bit of what my sister wrote about Irfan in the previous entry...

Talking about piano lesson, Irfan was a fast learner and started to sit for the grading examinations which he passed with distinction and won recognition. One thing about Irfan,  he is a good Teacher, whatever he learns he will impart to others. He likes to play the teacher. The grand aunts are the likely students. Irfan taught us mandarin ( he is good and learn the language to an advanced level) and piano ( not the instruments – we find piano is tough to play,- but the music notes) plus the composers life history. He reads and reads. He reads in mandarin and he reads books on musics. Looking at his book collections, you won’t believe that a small boy has gone through all of those books and remember the  facts, all at his finger tips!

As a person, well he is humble, after all the applause he got and the attention from the media, the travels to perform and going to master classes in Russia, Estonia, USA, Hong Kong we thought he would probably change. No he does not change. He is still the humble self as a child now as a young teen. What he has achieved did not  go to his head at all. He is still a child who respects the elders (though he did mentioned that we are more than grand aunts to him, more like his grandmothers and best friends, because we talk and laugh and play monopoly with him and acted as his students, sometimes), and never behave condescendingly towards the ignorant especially in the world of music. He  wants to share all his knowledge.

Once l told his father that, Irfan is just a normal child but he will immediate change into an adult when he starts to talk about music. He can debate with his father academically, and we are surprised how much he knows.

Irfan with his parents and Stevie Wonder after performing at 'Faces of Malaysia' event in Washington USA

I had met Irfan and his father in Hong Kong in October, and after his Thailand debut, I visited him back stage to renew our acquaintance and to congratulate him on his performance. Left to right: Buzz, pianist Irfan, his younger sister, and my friend Susan. Irfan’s very nice father took the picture. They live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I stumbled upon Buzz's blog (pic above) when i googled for info on Irfan's performance at Mahidol University, Bangkok late last year.

Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah at the Mahidol Uni Concert (Google Image)
Our former PM Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Dr Siti Hasmah even with their tight schedule managed to make time and fly to Bangkok to see Irfan performed at Mahidol Uni.  They have been attending performances by Irfan since his first concert with MPO in 2009.

Another para of Tok Teh's take...

He has gone to Julliard Music Institute in New York to do double majors, in piano and composition. Julliard Institute needs to come up with a different schedule for him, because it was rare for a student to take a double major of sorts. He will attend his music lessons on Saturday at Julliard, and on the weekdays he will attend the professional children school. His classmates will be child actors, dancers, chefs, and other professionals, this school formulates syllabus for busy students who spends part of their time doing professional jobs and at the same time attending academic classes.

I have mementos from Irfan.  I recorded his songs and compositions. I even have  a sonata dedicated for me, The Tok Teh song, done in C Major (upbeat rythmn). I guessed to Irfan l am on the move person, that is why the song is done in C  Major.

Irfan will be always be in our heart, because he is our first grand nephew who grew in front of our eyes, not because he has accomplished something big, even if he is a normal child with an average achievement he will still win our hearts, because he is a religious, humble, obedient, respectful, unselfish, generous little boy. He is born to please and make us happy with his laughter and jest. We love you, Irfan. May Allah take good care of you. May you achieve all the success in whatever you do.

Irfan has his last words to us when he came back to Kota Bharu last Ramadan. “Don’t worry, I won’t change abit, but l will only grow tall a few inches…”

No doubt we are already missing all of you (niece and her family) so far away from us....

This entry is posted to serve as a memorable note among my family about a little musical boy who has achieved so much in a short time and who has left us a few days ago for several years to pursue a greater dream ..... Insya Allah.

Homemade Sirap Ros Pandan Special

Hubby's special recipe modified from his mum's original recipe...

Bahan-bahan yang diperlukan:

1.  1 kg. gula kasar
2.  Daun pandan 10 helai
3.  3 kuntum bunga cengkih
4.  1.250 liter air
5.  Bahan campuran sebaik-baiknya guna 'Star Brand'
     -  Pewarna merah      :  3 sudu besar penuh
     -  Perisa Pandan        :  1 sudu teh
     -  Perisa Ros             :  1 sudu teh
     -  Perisa Vanilla         :  1 sudu teh
     -  Perisa Pisang          :  1 sudu teh

Perisa Yang Digunakan
Cara Membuatnya:

Masukkan bahan campuran kesemuanya kecuali perisa pisang.  Dalam keadaan suam barulah dimasukkan perisa pisang.  Kacau sehingga agak larut semuanya.  Biarkan sehingga sejuk dan botolkan.  Simpan dalam peti sejuk.

SELAMAT MENCUBA AIR SIRAP PANDAN ROS!

WHAT'S ON THE WHITE BOARD??????

A white board in a kitchen seems to be serving another purpose....

What's got into my son's head at this moment?????

How about this one....

In a moment of frustration hubby must have written this down.  He got the attack of an annoying continuous burping whenever he consumed certain kind of food..huhuhu

A rather loose translation of what he wrote:

Remember :  I cannot drink tea, I cannot eat noodles
Put it in my mind! Cannot eat noodle:  Put it in my head..........

Will We Hear This Call????

Ambil dari Google Image..

Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said that a caller will call out in Paradise when people enter it: “Indeed may you be healthy and never be sick again, may you live and never die again, may you be young and never grow feeble again, may you enjoy, and never feel sorrow and regret again.” [Muslim]

I dedicate the poem below to my son who will soon be going back to his college for the new semester with a whole lot of new syllabus of subjects  he mentioned in here as weird and scary???  You know son...we will always be right behind you  supporting because we believe in you....

I Believe You Can Accomplish Anything You Choose
By Unknown

If you could see through my eyes,
I wonder what you’d be feeling right now,
Because I can see you standing
As you really are -

Powerful, sensitive, determined, and gracious.
I can see you achieving everything you choose to achieve.
I can see you being exactly who and what you want to be.
Look through my eyes for an instant,

And you’ll see yourself
Conquering all limitations.
Look through my eyes,
And see who you really are

And what you are capable of.
You can accomplish anything –
I know you can.

An Attorney and a Moulana

Kisah lawyer nak tunjuk pandai...hehe (no offence intended...'wink wink')

At a well attended function a pompous young attorney was displaying his knowledge by posing questions to the various guests that were proving difficult to answer. He seemed to be enjoying the attention of the audience as his targets squirmed under his line of questioning. Finally, he turned to the Moulana (learned man, teacher) who was quietly enjoying a cup of tea in the corner.

After exchanging salaams and a brief introduction he thundered straight in and said in a loud voice, “I suppose you Moulana’s are infallible and never make any mistakes, am I correct?”

The Moulana stroked his beard and calmly asked, “My son, what brings you to that conclusion?”
“Well, I have never heard any apologies and corrections in your lectures,” replied the attorney

Moulana: “Maybe you have not heard this because I have been lecturing before you were born. We are human and make mistakes, we accept responsibility and rectify it.”

Then turning on the young man attorney he says, “Surely you make mistakes too?”
“Yes! off course we make mistakes, Moulana.” To which the Moulana counters, “And tell me son, how do you rectify it?”

He replies: “Well, I weigh up the situation and if there is an element of truth in the matter I let it go and leave it at that. What about you?”

Moulana with a little sparkle in his eyes answers, “Pretty much the same. In fact last week in my bayaan(lecture) I meant to say that Shaitaan, is the father of all Liars but accidentally said Shaitaan is the father of all lawyers… so I let it go and left it at that.”

The sound of laughter from the room followed the young man as he beat a hasty retreat.

Rezeki Yang Tidak DiRedhai Allah SWT...

Socialite Says "I Do" to Over-the Top Wedding

Move aside, Kate Middleton. Eat your heart out, Kim Kardashian. British socialite Petra Ecclestone has you both beat when it comes to over-the-top weddings. The Formula One heiress reportedly dropped an estimated $5 million to $7 million on her big day to wed businessman James Stunt in a three-day extravaganza in Rome.
Buzz on the Web was certainly big: Lookups on the extravagant bride increased 389% in just one day.
Still, the blonde heiress seems to be aware that she is blessed with good fortune, as it were. She told ABC, "I'm not spoiled, I'm privileged, and I think there's a huge difference in that."
The 22-year-old certainly knows how to live the good life: She is the daughter of billionaire Formula One CEOBernie Ecclestone, who's thought to be footing the bill, and former Armani model Slavica Radic. The celebutante is also a fashion designer who, according to People, will release her line of Starks handbags in the fall.
The daughter of privilege had quite an expense list for her nuptials: The celebration took place at a 15th-century castle, Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes tied the knot back in 2006 -- and which reportedly cost $500,000 to rent.
The bride left her hotel for the ceremony in a Rolls-Royce Phantom, then switched cars to join her father in his vintage white Rolls-Royce for her entrance. Guests were greeted by an 18-piece string section from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and treated to a 40-minute concert -- at a cost of more than $160,000.
The model and designer wore a $130,000 custom Vera Wang gown, complete with diamond tiara and earrings. Andrea Bocelli serenaded the couple after the two exchanged vows.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed entertainment by the Black Eyed Peas and family friend Eric Clapton, and were served $6,500-a-bottle wine. Fireworks and an acrobatics display capped the evening. At a dinner the night before the wedding, guests feasted on caviar and Cristal and enjoyed a performance by Alicia Keys.
The guest list included princesses Beatrice and Eugenie; their mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York; and Paris and Nicky Hilton.
The couple's spending didn't stop at the wedding: The pair will move into Aaron and Candy Spelling's $85 million manse (purchased with cash), the largest residence in Los Angeles, natch.
So what do you buy the couple who clearly have everything? Luckily, they thought of that, too: Guests were asked to give to charity in lieu of gifts.

In today's society the essence of a wedding day has been forgotten and that is the beauty, simplicity, and true meaning of it. People are forgetting that their wedding moment is getting to stand beside the one you love and exchange your vows to love each other till' death. Today a wedding is all about who gets to wear the most expensive wedding gown, who gets to wear the most expensive diamonds, and who gets to spend ridiculous amount of money for material things. Yet all the while the true simplicity and beauty of a wedding is forgotten. Sad.
