my not so bizzare puding roti + apung

Leftovers days old bread and weeks old 'apung' or 'apam' (colourful steam kind of spongy cake) resulted into this not so bizzare bread pudding....

 colourful apung/apam

watched on Unique Eats, there was this chef somewhere in USA mixed pound cake and glaze donuts and made it into this kind of pudding, it was a hit with his customers...

before baking...
after baking...crunchy on the top

needs a lazy person such as yours truly to dish out this kind of instant pudding, just  whisked 4 small eggs with whatever amount of sweetness you desire of those sweet thick creamer, some leftover milk, vanilla bean plus a dash of vanilla essence, tear in bits the bread and the apung (it was an afterthought to add in the apung by the way..rather than left it in the fridge uneaten) into the custard sauce, add in some chopped  macadamia nuts and plump black raisins lastly topped the mixture with bits of butter...bake in oven at 190 deg. celcius for about 50 minutes and enjoy the result..

bila cucu masuk hospital

Cerita lama yang berlaku sebelum bulan puasa lagi...AD was warded for a few days due to a minor complications of a lasting cough and phlegm problem, selera makan pun berkurangan...budak kecik kan mana reti nok kehek kahak...kesian dia gruk grak gruk grak bunyi kahak dalam dada dan bernafas pun tersekat-sekat.

Just for Sitty's record, Sitty is blogging about AD's experience while warded.

senyap ssitu..

Ummi beritahu bila sampai masa boleh balik berguling-guling menangis tak nak balik...suka duk spital lah pulok!

a forlorn small boy looking out the window to pass the time...boringkan AD?

mainan kereta wajib ada sebagai teman..

Letih...lepas makan ubat

sudah pandai guna inhaler untuk bernafas...

Kak Zara dan Adik Zaim, cousins AD datang teman bermain..hilang sikit boring tu

back to his mischievious self...

ok..bye bye Wad Sang Kancil..Alhamdulillah AD sudah boleh pulang ke rumah.  Daiyan tertidur masa nak balik kalau Daiyan tak tidur mesti Daiyan buat brona lagi xsey balik...

Oh ini sebabnya buat Daiyan xsey balik...suko main gelongsor ni.  Boleh buat saim baru sama umur, tiru kkecek kawe tu lagi hehe..

tokbah jahit eyelet curtain

Satu lagi posting terperap dalam draf...macam biasa upload gambar dulu dan dibiarkan jadi jeruk buat seberapa lama. Looking back at my blog archive  I only managed to come out with only a posting a month..well...not bad for a blogger who never give a thought when the sun rises and sets what topic should she blog about every day...hmmm.

Ok back to this business of sharing the method how to produce the 'holes' in an eyelet curtain.  I am not familiar with the term eyelet curtains so here what it says after searching what it means via Mr. Google...Eyelet curtains are a clean, elegant contemporary look, producing fluted columns of fabric that show off prints to perfection and give a lovely sculptured look to plain fabrics. The flat 'head' (top edge) of these curtains means that they slack back really effectively off the window without taking up too much room.

I mentioned 'holes' in the curtain because that is what this posting is all about, sewing the whole six panels of the curtain is no big deal to the scissors not trigger handling happy looking man in the picture below but to make the perfect round holes is a big deal to him.  Of course I am of no help at all in this sewing business...never good at handling scissors thread and needles and of course the sewing machine ...leave it all to the man of the house, he sewed all the curtains in the house (yang ada loop tu) and other DIY odd jobs around the house, he is the one my siblings/ex-bosses/family friends called upon  for  help in minor maintenance work around the house and aptly my sisters referred to him as our own MacGyver..hahaha.  Whenever we travel to KL to visit our daughter be sure to spare a quarter of the space in the car boot for his tool boxes, one might never know something needs fixing around her house too.

Upon the desperate need of our eldest daughter and like any good Abah when it is possible, never to turn down his children's request.    Dini always has faith in her Abah especially when it comes to sewing curtains of course.  She dragged us to the newly opened Jakel Mall to buy the materials...yang si Abah ni ingat boleh saja jahit curtain yang simple-simple, rupa-rupanya nak yang design eyelet ni.  Curtain ini for main sliding door at her new house in Subang lepas raya puasa ini berpindah ke situ. Berjam-jam tunggu demo duo oghe tu duk tanya salesgirl and tengok samples curtains di Jakel macam mana nok jahit curtain jenis eyelet.

One might asked why not seek Mr. Google on how the rest of  the world make the 'holes'... as I was not involved in this sewing scheme, I particularly do not pay enough attention to what he is doing..he never even trust me to help iron the material thus it did not cross my mind to help search this hole making business on you tube.

None of the tailoring shops specializing in sewing curtains in town agreed to help cut the holes on  readymade curtains and all of them told him it is DIY thing...so our DIY man here had to put on his thinking cap how to cut perfect holes.  Fikir punya fikir...this is the first sample he did by cutting rough frayed circles and being always a detailed person on how his work is always done (he was a site technician involving construction projects and was always a pain in the neck for main and sub-contractors for demanding good quality work in the projects, there was a case of a main contractor asking him to quit his job and if he did the contractor would slaughter a kambing...hahaha!).  He told me it is not wrong to demand for good quality clean work tapi kan banyak kontraktor ni suka cincai cincai punya kerja...asal siap bangunan within contracted time...kalau runtuh tu lain punya hal lah...kerja bukan dengan iman begini jadinya.

At last he came up with the idea of drawing the circles on the material and sewed it first before cutting around the circles...I had a look at a video on you tube where the lady drew a circle too on the material and immediately paste the grommet casing around it

Tadaaaa...siap homemade eyelet curtain!

the man at work....

sekadar satu perkongsian....sharing is caring :)

To West With Ease!

Sudah lama benar gambar-gambar terperap dalam draf...I need to do something about it.  Duk tenung tilik tenung tilik gambar2 ni brapo minggu doh..idea nok nnulih dok maghi2...haaishhhhh.. nok tengok tv xleh...cik abe booking sokmo starting from 9.30 pm till midnight...tengok sports lah...gapo lagi..lagi sekali haishhh!

moleklah cerita pasal gambar-gambar ni lah...ssegho nok nnulih kut loghat ambo lah kali ni..ko guano Teh dio..bolehlah dih?  Nok nnulih gapo-gapo mesti ingat ko Teh, kakak ambo, dio meme handal bab-bab nnulih ni pasa dio gi belajar pasa nnulih ko sok kobar, majalah, iyo lah mugo dio oghe DBP ke dulu sebelum pecen.  Loni pecen pun dio duk buat editing ko DBP lagi..oghe nok lagi kita buat lah dih mugo boleh pitih lebih...buat-buat tapung duit pecen.

agok-agoknyo lah ramai kenal kalu kelih gambar atah ni dih?  Duk gi maghi ko Kuala Lumpur (anok-anok duk ssano blako) lewat tahun lepas lagi lalu kut ni lah.  Ghaso dok gelewak lalu kut ni gi balik KL tapi jange musim cuti sekoloh lah ko cuti perayae gapo-gapo nyo gelewak jugok nyo.

Gambar atah tu bukae ambo hok snap tapi amik dari web page rasmi Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2..comel ke tu..ambo xreti nok amik gambar comel gini.

Gambar ni gi KL masa time biasa, week day so memang tak banyok keto..nok jupo lori balak kut ni memang payoh lah...kalu kut Gua Musae duk ikut belakae lori bawok balok besar2 pah nok overtake pun kito hok ghaso gerun biar pun oghe lain hok bawok kereto.

Hah..ni maso hari rayo chino bulae duo baru ni...kito alah gi KL gaknyo ghama lah hok nok balik kkapung...jem suk suk..mujur kito tidok duk KL tapi gi tiap-tiap bulae mugo anok-anok duk ssano.

Ikut suka hati ni nak fill in the words here so hentam saja lah... this highway starts somewhere near Sungai Tong if I am not mistaken.  Dulu in December 2014 when we first used this route we have to exit at Paka since the road to Jabor was still under construction.  Tol memang tak kena bayar lagi sebab plaza tol Terengganu and R&R di situ still under construction.  Only in late January 2015 the whole stretch of the highway was opened to the public.  Sesat jugok masa exit di Paka  cari jalan nok masuk balik lebuhraya di Jabor, duo tigo kali jugok berhenti tanyo oghe kapung  situ arah mano nok tuju.

Gambar di atas diambil masa berhenti rehat/sembahyang di R&R Kijal...situated on top of a small hill.

Gambar ni tak ingat but i think this is at R&R Temerloh..

We made a stop at R&R Perasing too..that is Teh in the picture.  R&R Perasing caters to both travellers from the east and west coast tu macam R&R Genting Sempah.

ado playground untuk kanak-kanak..

ado oghe sudi nok jadi model sekejap untuk gambar ni..hihi

and so this lebuhraya will be our route to KL from now on...the toll rate from Jabor to Karak is RM21.30 or whereabouts when the Terengganu Plaza Toll operates it will costs us more but what the heck...no fuss no frills travelling along LPT 2  and I can only wish that the highway continue till Pasir Puteh, Kelantan and that will be God sent for us.

Cerita Banjir

Where do I start with this posting about the recent flood...it seems eons ago that I write in this blog and I do want to continue writing just so to give the grey matter a nudge to be a bit active.  I voiced out my 'dilemma' to my editor sister and she had a great idea...hey why not you start  when we were children in the sixties and early seventies we just can't wait for the next round of flood to come???....hmmmm not a bad idea writing about that anticipation of  waking up in the morning to see brownish murky muddy water filling the compound of our house, it was like having a giant swimming pool for us to play in.  Big floods small floods are common in my life growing up as a child  having being raised in a house quite near  Sungai Kelantan.  Always my sisters and I had a whale of a time wading and splashing (but never learn how to swim!) in the flood water but then we were kids and we never understand why Mok and Ayoh were worried when the monsoon season rolled in.

This is hubby's narration in his own words....
It was Wednesday evening 24th December 2014 around 6 pm came out in my mind to go and see what is the actual condition of the water level of Kelantan river. I was so suprised to see  the water level had rose up higher than the Kampung Sungai Budur behind me. I was standing against the concrete wall which is part of the barricade built  to control flood from flooding the town of Kota Bharu. Some low areas in Kampung Sungai Budur were already flooded about a foot or more and I calculated that at this situation most of the area should have been flooded including the area where I am staying. I was informed by nearby folks there the water control gate will be opened that night to release the water  or else the concrete barricade will be destroyed due to the swift current.  I rushed  home with so many things jumbled up in my mind what should be prepared as for sure in another 4 hours  the water level will definitely rise up.

The length of concrete wall holding fort against the rising water but at last have to give way to the already swollen river...we went to take a look at this concrete wall after the flood, most part had crumbled to the ground due to the force of the flood.

The control gate that had to be open to release the flood water that engulfed KB town on the night of Christmas

Water, water, water everywhere and it was deep on the side of the fence..it has become a waterway for motor boats, sampans on the deep side

somehow one perahu/sampan and a motor boat collided on the other side of our fence...the current was swift

The water level was still rising when I took this picture and creeped inside our foyer and lower kitchen

a neighbour parked his motor boat in the compound...kereta sudah tidak berguna lagi

this generator set was our saviour for a whole six days since electricity and water was cut off early on Christmas morning.  Husband bought this gen set when we moved in 2005 since we were always experiencing frequent black outs in our area.  I would say we were lucky as we were not using 'air kerajaan' but dig a well at the back of the house and uses an electric pump to bring up the supply of water.  So we had our normal supply of electricity  (for limited hours only though) and water when other flood victims had to live without during that period.  The problem  we faced was the constant supply of petrol for the generator set, husband had to go out wading in chest high water in search of a petrol station that was not flooded and how much can he carry home but for a couple of bottles at a time..but we sufficed.

Picture taken after the flood receded ...

the aftermath of the flood...rubbish of all sorts got stuck in the fence.

the aftermath at husband's younger brother's house...see the watermark level above his head..he was not home when the flood hits his area, only a few household things can be salvaged, he had moved few things up to the second floor earlier before leaving the house since the area where he stay was often badly hit by flood in the past years and like everybody else had not anticipate the recent flood was the mother of all floods that had hit Kelantan.
