SCAMMED!!!

Well who would have  thought that I would fell into this telemarketing trap????  Do not ever think that everyone of us cannot be a victim to all the wicked ways of this world in one way or other.

That's it I didn't think it could happen to me...itu lah kita ni manusia yang lemah, lalai dan adakala bodoh di masa itu lah datang segala mak datuk syaitan yang bertopengkan manusia menduga kebodohan ini.

I am not going into details as it happened exactly like what is detailed in the said blog above.

In Shaa Allah semoga Allah permudahkan segala urusan ....

Once In a Lifetime Journey ...The Hajj (Madinah)

View of the now famous clock tower (other than the other famous clock tower) taken from my hotel room window and it served to remind me of where I was at that moment ... Makkah Al Mukarramah! A place where all human beings who professed Islam as their religion had in their hearts and by the grace of Allah to be here once in their lifetime to complete the 5 Pillars of Islam ...not counting those who had  continuous opportunities to come here though.

I have put on hold for so long to publish something about my pilgrimage because I feel there is nothing extraordinary to write about since most of us have gone to perform the haj or the small haj..umrah. At the insistence of my dear sister (she's being at me for so long nagging for some write-up of what's happening while I was there), I will try to jot down some memorable happenings.

It was in February 2012 when we received letters from Tabung Haji (TH) both hubby and I were selected and offered to perform this year's haj season (1433H/2012).   I was having some doubts about leaving  No. 3 and No. 4 'Sunshines' since they will be facing their major exams SPM and STPM come November and  No. 1 'Sunshine' is due to deliver her first baby in early October, a few months  later   No. 2 'Sunshine' told us that the date for his convocation ceremony might be in November too.  Hubby was steadfast in his decision that come what may we go on  haj this year. Putting doubts aside we decided to  make a plea  to TH to put us on  an earlier flight citing our personal reasons as above minus the delivery due date of my eldest daughter...that can't be help because she will be delivering her baby before the day for Wukuf.  The TH staff to whom we submitted our plea was negative in her answer saying our reason is not strong enough but Allah Knows Best  when the schedule date letter from TH arrived  we were among the first batch of pilgrims (KT 01) to leave for the holy land on 16 Sept 2012 and  be back home by November 1.

The bonus of being the earliest among the pilgrims to arrive in Madinah was that Masjid Nabawi  was quite deserted for a few days before the exodus below begins..haha.

The flight from KLIA flew direct to Madinah and we arrived in the early hours of 17 Sept. at Madinah airport.  Had a glimpsed of Masjid Nabawi with all its lights on from above before landing...such a beautiful view.  There was a small reception when we arrived at Hotel Movenpick since we were the first pilgrims to arrive from Malaysia.  If I am not mistaken KT 01 pilgrims was  officially greeted and welcomed  by HRH Prince Abdul Aziz bin Majed bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Madinah. Each pilgrim was handed a small box of dates and tasbih in glittering colourful sachets by the Governer himself just as we stepped off the bus.  Cameras started clicking, TV cameras zooming in and female TH officials strewn petals of roses on us as we walked towards the hotel... tak pernah dalam hidup ini disambut sebegitu rupa.

Grand hotels along the perimeter of the gates of Masjid Nabawi

We were in Madinah before when we performed the Umrah in the year 2000 (that was in early December and the weather was a lot cooler) and over the years old buildings/hotels were torn down to make way for grander hotels just like in the picture above.  The roads are now wider with more new buildings under construction, hubby and I cannot recall which part of Madinah we stayed before.  It was a small hotel located somewhere in one of the back streets and was about a 10 minute walk to Masjid Nabawi.

I was placed in a room at Movenpick for two occupants and the husband of my room mate shared a room just across ours with my hubby and another male pilgrim.  For reasons unknown in Madinah and Makkah I shared rooms with my fellow State man or rather ladies, might be that because more than half of the pilgrims of KT 01 comes from Kelantan.

Even though the masjid is just a stone's throw away from the hotel one has to walk across a vast expanse of tiled marble floor to reach the masjid, it was a bit of shock when the hot dry afternoon heat  seared my face when i stepped off from the hotel's corridor to enter the masjid for zohor prayers... well it was September and the weather is still hot.

Like I say before, Masjid Nabawi was quite deserted for the first few days before  pilgrims from other countries and other KTs from Malaysia (5 KTs a day) started to arrive in droves and I had the opportunity to pray in the first saf (row) at every prayer times.  Only 3 days in Madinah and I was already feeling a bit hectic with the prayer times since they were only 3 hours apart except for Subuh and Zohor prayers and falling on the bed to rest for a while between solat was a luxury.  Apart from fulfilling the 40 prayer times over eight days, the visit to our Prophet's mausoleum and Raudah (Garden of Paradise) is of course looked forward.

Pics above were taken by hubby picturing the situation at the Raudah, see the men praying on the green carpet.  Everyone prays to have  a chance to pray on this green carpet as it is said every prayer (doa) you asked for will In Shaa Allah be fulfilled by the Almighty.  When I was on Umrah twelve years ago there was a very large crowd of women pushing and shoving and I did not get to solat properly but this time Alhamdulillah the crowd was less and I get to solat twice on the green carpet and offered prayers for everyone at home... healthwise, longevity etc.  One could not help but feel humbled praying here and tears flow without bidding.

Arab children praying in Masjid Nabawi.

One thing that I did not look forward to was the frisking/checking of our belongings  by the women's guard at the masjid.  Shrouded in black from head to toe they stood guard by the masjid's doors, blocking the entrance to the women's section prayer hall.  Men have the real deal in the holy land, they are free to visit Raudah at all hours and were spared being frisked before entering the masjid. At one time my ball point pen diambil si jubah hitam ni...I looked at her with resignation, she said...'afteerrr solat' meaning I can collect it back after solat....apa dah....ballpen pun kau nak ambil bukannya kita nok buat conteng dalam masjid Nabi, cuma nak tanda dalam notebook tempat berhenti baca quran.  Kau nak ambil sangat ambil lah...at least something of mine is left behind at Masjid Nabawi :).

On the 9th day in Madinah kalau tak silap 25hb September bertolak ke Makkah selepas solat Asar.....

A Reason To Smile - Graduation Day

It's nearly the end of  the year and I am still in my hibernating mood to blog, the urge to post/write here has waned a bit after returning from the Haj ... just put it down as plain laziness on my part :).  Anyway back to this business of posting a bit about my second sunshine's glory day ... his graduation day.

The event took place at Dewan Agong Tuanku Canselor at UiTM Shah Alam last 25 November 2012 and we were there to share his happiness  and at the age of  22 he has a  Bachelor in Arts & Design (Hons) in Graphic Design Second Class (Upper).  You did your best Azri and we are proud of you and your perseverance paid off and you got a little star there right after your name :).

Some happy moments captured on the said day....

Alhamdulillah for all Allah SWT's Mercies..

With both  ears feeling plugged due to the altitude changes and no amount of swallowing or sucking medicinal tablets for sore throat to ease the plugged feeling, there's also my spouse raging with a high temperature besides me and heavy coughing enveloping both of us throughout the 9 hour journey, the plane carrying the Haji and the Hajjahs from KT 01 from Jeddah landed safely in KLIA around 9.30 pm (local time) on the 1st of November 2012.... not exactly the picture I had in mind on how our state of health would be when we first flew into Madinah on the 17 of September 2012!  I feel like kicking the man who was seated in the opposite aisle for looking so healthy and in a jovial mood and I noticed too he had the time to change his casual attire into a crisp white jubah with spanking black polished shoes  just an hour before landing!

We were the last few to leave the plane due to hubby's high temp but somehow he was left behind when I managed to pass a few others on the way out.  I kept glancing back when he was nowhere in sight when I heard my name announced to please return to where a group of Tabung Haji's personnels were on hand to greet the pilgrims when we left the plane.

But there's a bright spot waiting for us in KB albeit our discomfort on our return from the Haj....

Our first cucu... Wan Ahmad Daiyan.  After six years our eldest daughter gave birth to him when we were in Makkah on the 2nd of October 2012.

Will blog a bit more about our pilgrimage later and this piece is written on the insistence of my sister and daughter....dia orang kata lama-lama tak blogging you won't get any readers to read your blog..yelah tu.... blog ni pun bukannya ada ramai viewers.  Mula-mula balik dulu memang tidak ada keinginan langsung nak tulis apa-apa...berjalan pun macam atas angin tidak berpijak ke bumi yang nyata...but for the families' sake...here I am back again :)

Kacang Itik dan Roti Canai Cotek

Macam ini rupanya kacang itik mentah, mula-mula ingatkan buoh celagi.  Discovered at one of the friday morning markets along Jalan PCB.

The young boy manning the stall gave us a taste of a boiled 'kacang itik'.  After taking a bite I realised its the same salty 'kacang itik' with the brown papery skin....taste ok.  Mokcik ni 'daghak' tak pernah tengok kacang itik mentah...huhu.

I don't know of anywhere else this type of roti canai sold in KB except here at Jalan Bayam.

Lastly,

Not in the mood to do any packing yet 'sigh'...biasalah last minute baru sibuk nak packing.  Departure date is getting nearer....

A Reason To Smile

I have a reason to smile yesterday ... the second 'Sunshine In My Life' made the Dean's List for his final semester's degree result in Graphic Design (he majored in Multimedia). The results came out yesterday.

Remember....Mama dedicated this poem to you last year when you were worried with what the semester ahead was offering with a weird and scary syllabus and Alhamdulillah you made it albeit some difficulties that all degree students in a course such as yours had to go through in accomplishing their projects and tasks in order to attain good credits....and you have successfully managed to jump over the first hurdle but remember there are still more hurdles in your life for you to clear; we will always be behind you supporting because we believe in you...

Yahoooo............ I made it!!!!!

Nestle @ Brickfields

Blogger Al-Manar was reminiscing about how Brickfields (now known as Little India) played an important role in the early days for him as well as for his family and I on the other hand upon reading Al-Manar's post  recalled the times when I was employed by Nestle Products (Head Office) at Jalan Brickfields in the late Seventies.

I was thrust into a working world dominated by expatriates with a majority of non-Malay employees after freshly graduating from ITM (now UiTM).  If I remember correctly (it was 35 years ago anyway...), I was called up for  interviews while still in my final semester in two places on the same date and time ie Nestle and Petronas  (masa tu Petronas tidak gah lagi macam sekarang!).  To cut a long story short I chose to go for the Nestle interview because of the familiarity of the word NESTLE and MILO!  While still studying in college I used to travel along Jalan Brickfields and saw this big red letters NESTLE on a long rectangle building and thinking how nice if I can work there one day.  Alhamdulillah, after being shortlisted after the first interview and called up for a second interview I got the job as a Stenographer (are there stenographers nowadays????), well it was a step up to become a secretary back in those days.  I remember the secretary to the big boss (the General Manager) then drove a sports car to work...woweeee!  With big sunglasses and a scarf tied around her head (glamer habis!), she was a reminiscence of Grace Kelly in a movie..hahaha.  I was just a kampung girl from the east coast with no working experience except for a six weeks practical training and that was in my hometown in a government office.. and boy was I nervous and timid on my first day.  The personnel manager (an elderly Tuan Haji) was kind enough to explain to me that the management recruited more  Malay staff so as not to make us feel like 'Rusa Masuk Kampung' ( I must have looked so 'kampung like' throughout the interviews...hahaha) but then now I can look back on those times as all sweet memories.

Now who would this be in the pictures below?

He joined Nestle after a year I was there if I am not mistaken...thanks to my failing memories!  He was very attached to me and my circle of friends in the office and would tagged along with us for lunch, played pranks (a lot) on us and very popular with the staff at HO.  The first pic was when we threw him a surprise birthday party, tu nampak tersengih satu macam aje.. Second pic he personally gave me this pic of him when I left Nestle forever....sedih!

With his versatile personality I am not at all surprise to see what he has achieved today....a Celebrity Chef with the famous restaurant and lately a title was bestowed upon him joining thousands and thousands with that title.  Baguslah dah jadi orang famous kan.... am happy for you :)

Old faded photographs of yours truly with very close friends in Nestle...
My very best friends...Kai Sim and Suzanne Nani on either side of me....I miss u girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What wide grins we had...I think Mail was cracking jokes when this pic was taken.

What I missed about Nestle?   I missed buying discounted Nestle products which cost a bit more outside..my siblings in KL really took advantage of this.  I missed the delicious Nasi Lemak with the overpouring of the 'gulai daging' sold by a Malay couple  on the corner of the Brickfields Parcel Post Office just opposite Nestle HO.  I missed not helping the blind cross the road (MAB is in Brickfields), you got the opportunity of helping them if you are working in this vicinity.  I don't missed the burden of work there (which is a lot!) but I missed my very nice boss CKH and I missed the atmosphere when the department (Distribution Dept.) where I was working turned into a fish market in the afternoons (around 3 or 4 pm) with three or more officers shouting  on the phones speaking with the forwarding agents at Port Kelang because that was the time when the imported bulk material for beverages/milk arrived on the cargo ships and oh... I missed the forever thick cup of hot Milo prepared by Angela, the tea lady on my table every morning :).

Nestle @ Brickfields is no longer there....only fond memories remain.

- 1 paket Biskut Marie perasa kopi
- 1/2 kg Philadelphia cream cheese
- 1/2 kotak Whip Cream
- 1 cawan gula halus
- 1/2 tin susu evaporate

Simple steps to making Tiramisu...

Proses melapis...

The end product....YUMMY cool Tiramisu!

Kejahatan Malam!

So hari-hari travel to and fro dari KB ke BJ ni memakan masa 5 jam pergi dan balik.

In English pulak...
I don't know how to put into words what actually happened last Thursday night or rather in the early morning around 3 a.m.  It's being over a week and I still felt like it was just a bad nightmare.  It's the sight of blood blood blood that is still crowding my mind and truth be told I have not seen such a lot of blood being shed at any one time right in front of my eyes.

I was awoken by a loud thud and a groan from the other side of the bed....the first thought was hubby must be having one of his nightmares again and rolled off the bed onto the floor.  What greeted me was a grisly sight.... he was clutching the right side of his head and blood was gushing out between his fingers!  A small pool of deep red blood was already forming on the tile floor.  Apparently he was thrown or lifted off the bed, thumped against the wall, his head sliding down and hit the skirting at the bottom of the wall and the sharp tile  on the edge on the skirting sliced open his scalp thus producing the gory blood scene! His pagoda t-shirt soon was drenched in blood and the funny thing is that the pillow by his side was still in the same position and not disturbed at all...its like he was lifted over the pillow and smashed against the wall....spooky like now! He later told me that his body felt like floating on air and light before the fall.

Except for our two 19 yr old and 17 yr old kids there were no other adults at home so its up to me to rush him to the Emergency Unit  at HRPZ2...mujurlah hospital dekat cuma 2 1/2 km saja dari rumah tapi  langgar tiga lampu merah malam tu.  The 17 yr old was awake watching the battle between Spain and Portugal whilst the 19 yr old was dead to the world so no need to disturb her.  He was immediately wheeled in the moment we reached the Emergency entrance and in the haste to follow him inside and at the same moment from the corner of my eyes I saw a man writhing and groaning on the dark lighted sidewalk and didn't gave it a thought thinking maybe he was kind of a 'disturbed' man trying to find a place to sleep for the night.

The sound of an alarm bell went off a few minutes later when we were inside the treatment room meaning there's an emergency  (some kind of commotion outside).  While waiting for hubby to be stitched up (luckily he was not warded), a couple of doctors or interns (tak tahu yang mana satu sebab dia orang tak pakai name tag, pakai pun casual like except for their white coats) walked in and one of them asked me what happened to hubby. Actually there was a TV room near the entrance and there were some people also watching the Euro Cup and nobody noticed this man struggling for his breath just outside the door on the sidewalk.

A week later...after the stitches were taken out yesterday (nine stitches altogether)

Captain T In Town

Bulan Februari lalu belum berpenghuni lagi...

Ini restoran atas sungai yang belum siap

Up-to-date pic of the restaurant below

If you want to eat on this floating restaurant you must be in a group of 5 or more as explained by the friendly waitress.

Orang tak ada so tak seganlah dua beradik ni berposing (bulan Feb. dulu)

Rupa taman itu sekarang...

A waitress giving hubby some information about the restaurant... hubby tanya  siapa taukenya...dia tunjuk ke arah seorang lelaki Cina berseluar pendek yang sedang duduk bersantai di tepi restoran.

Nice and pleasant once in a while to have a meal by the riverside....

Alahai apa yang tak kena ni...gambar menu pun dah terbalik lah pulok!  Minta tengok menu, saja nak check harga makanan di sini...mewah jugok weh.  Saranan dari pelayan yang berbudi bahasa  tu...baik datang ramai-ramai dan pandai-pandailah pilih apa yang hendak makan baru tak terasa sangat regonya...so Teh, Dini, Azha ...let's cekidaut Captain T asp :)

Before that at Tesco parking area....

Hok dungu manolah letok trolley di parking bay ni...tak dok 'civic' lasung!

Daiyan's Giant Caterpillars (Part II)

CEO of RapidKL's tweet inviting Daiyan to visit LRT depot...                          ...
